Wildfires
An Interactive Map
Project Overview
This interactive map offers a historical perspective on the wildfires in Washington State, spanning from 1973 to 2022. With an intuitive time slider, users can journey through the years, revealing fluctuations in wildfire occurrences and magnitudes. The choropleth map was chosen for its effectiveness in illustrating the severity and spread of wildfires, with a color gradient that transitions from a soft pink to a robust red to signify the scale of each fire by acreage.
What I did
- Developed the choropleth representation to visually communicate the severity and extent of wildfires.
- Implemented a dynamic display for the annual wildfire counts, enabling real-time data interaction.
- Integrated a feature to indicate the specific years of recorded wildfires for historical context.
- Designed the map to be not only informative but also engaging, ensuring an interactive user experience.
- Enabled the visualization of wildfire trends over time to facilitate a deeper understanding of their patterns.
